Amor Rajan asks: Do Indians care more about education than other Asians? – as year after year British-Indian pupils seem to outperform other pupils (especially their fellow South Asian Bangladeshi and Pakistani counterparts) in regards to educational attainment.
Aminul Hoque, Lecturer in Education Studies at London Met, joins the debate (follow the discussion from 9 mins onwards, Aminul appears from approx 10 mins onwards).
Aminul argues that this is an important debate but also a highly complex one. There are many variables involved and many sociological factors to consider: there is not an either/ or answer. Mainly, he argues that social class background and immigration history play a huge role as to why many Indian pupils are high achievers in comparison to their Bangladeshi/ Pakistani counterparts.
