Taking the Power Back
An open event for people active in their community
Friday, 29 April 2016
10am until 5pm
London Metropolitan University
The purpose of the day is to explore how we can build stronger communities. The event will comprise talks, workshops and networking, and has been put together by the directors of the Community Sector Coalition CIC in partnership with London Metropolitan University.
We begin with the belief is that community action has been radically undermined in recent years, contrary to the stated intentions of public policy, but that there is always the hope and the opportunity of real devolution of power to local communities.
The Third Sector or more recently, Civil Society Organisations, have been identified as a ‘means’ to deliver services and harness volunteering to achieve government ‘ends’. Meanwhile, charities have been pilloried in the press. The power and scale of community action, however, is much more than this.
Over the course of the day, we hope to celebrate alternative models and visions of community action and will conclude with ways we can all take this forward.
Registration – free.
